The Influence of Work Discipline and K3 on Ship Crew Performance at PT Global Trans Energy International

Abstract

This study analyzes the effect of work discipline and occupational health and safety (OHS) on ship crew performance at the Banjarmasin Branch of PT Global Trans Energy Internasional (GTEI), both partially and simultaneously. The study is grounded in internal company data from 2021 to mid-2025 showing that 52 of 180 ship crew members (28.89%) were blacklisted, with 81% of cases caused by work discipline violations and 19% by OHS violations. This research employs a quantitative method with a survey approach on 70 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed with IBM SPSS Statistics version 26 through validity, reliability, classical assumption, multiple linear regression, t-test, F-test, and determination coefficient tests. The regression analysis produced the equation Y = -3.221 + 0.524X1 + 0.530X2. Work discipline has a positive and significant effect on crew performance (t = 6.048; sig. 0.000), as does OHS (t = 6.767; sig. 0.000). Simultaneously, both variables have a positive and significant effect (F = 133.710; sig. 0.000) with an Adjusted R Square of 0.794, indicating that 79.4% of the variation in crew performance is explained by both variables. These findings suggest that consistently improving work discipline and OHS implementation can serve as an effective company strategy for enhancing ship crew performance.
